Democrat President 2008
On Foreign Policy:

McCain's strategy is the same as Bush's:  McCain and Bush want Russia's neighbors like the Ukraine and Georgia to join NATO.  That's the equivalent of Russia getting Canada to join the old Warsaw Bloc.  We'd be pretty irritated.

And then we want missile defense in Poland to protect Europe from Iran!  Look at a globe.  Maybe we could defend Scandinavia.  Our moves in Eastern Europe provide excuse for Russia to respond the way they have.  Not good of course, but with us weakened by the Iraq war and our provocations, it's no wonder they're taking action at this time.

McCain takes a strong, patriotic stance like he's a Commander in Chief, but in reality it's a continuation of Bush's policies for what the media calls "The Bear Strikes Back".  What did Bush and McCain expect?

It's the same old Republican banner.  Keep pushing in the name of freedom and democracy as long as it feeds our corporations and the military.

We need to renegotiate our whole Eastern Europe strategy.  Kennedy did this in 1961 when he got Khrushchev to remove Russian missiles from Cuba and WE agreed to remove our missiles from Turkey!

Come on Barack:  Speak out on a solution.  Don't just play a weak version of the Bush-McCain ineptness.

Messages to the Obama Campaign

1) Great choice for VP!!

2) You must emphasize the need for massive alternative energy projects that greatly reduce the use of oil, whether foreign or domestic.

3) You must emphasize that world oil production is capped at about 85 million barrels per day and U.S. production reached a peak in the early 1970s, and that new drilling offshore and Alaska will have a minimal effect on supply.  With growing demand the economic stresses will be great.  Please go to our Energy page

4) You must emphasize that the lack of funds for critical domestic programs and national security is caused mainly by the hundreds of billions of dollars spent on Iraq.

Sen. Obama has the characteristics needed to win in November:

  •  Leadership in articulating and solving national problems
  •  Leadership in drastically reducing dependence on foreign oil
  •  Ability and willingness to find solutions for Iraq
  •  Ability to deal with terrorism
  •  Personal charisma -- presence
  •  Chances in Battleground States
  •  Ability to deal with hot-button social issues
  •  Likableness --humor

Sen. Barack Obama

Senator Barak Obama has taken a leadership position on a variety of important national issues.  He appears to be unencumbered by personal ambition.  His motivation seems to be based on a vision for the nation.  While his length of experience does not measure up to Senator McCain's, he has put forth ideas that are far better than those with years in leadership positions.  Vice President Cheney, among others have shown that experience alone doesn't necessarily lead to good policies.  Although experience is often helpful, Barak Obama has enough.  Sen. Obama's basic direction is what the country desperately needs.  He learns quickly and we believe he will make needed adjustments to have a successful presidency.  With a Vice President Biden, the White House will be in a great position for leadership toward a sensible foreign policy.

We now have candidates who can satisfy the aspirations of most Democrats and yet appeal to Independents and some Moderate Republicans.

Key Issues a President Obama will take on

 1) Economy: he will work to stimulate the economy in several ways, most importantly by greatly reducing the tens of billions wasted in Iraq, by instituting far reaching energy programs, and by tax reform that helps the middle class

 2) Iraq: he will carefully disengage our military forces from Iraq.  His willingness to dialogue with our adversaries is a much needed change in our foreign policy.  (We had dialogue with the Soviet Union during the most hazardous times.)

 3) Energy: he is ready to stand up to Corporate excesses, especially the oil companies.  He stands ready to offer a major program to drastically reduce dependence on foreign oil.

 4) Education: he is prepared to greatly increase support for education at all levels.  He is committed to greatly increasing research in science and health.
